Collaboration of 10 ASEAN Youth and Insan Bumi Mandiri Supports Fishermen and Women in the Coastal Village of NTT


West Manggarai, NTT – After going through a series of online preparations and intensive workshops in Bangkok, Thailand, ten young men from ten ASEAN countries finally arrived in Golo Mori Village, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, on July 26, 2025. Their arrival was a marker of the start of the phase phase in place From the Glorious Golo Mori program, a community empowerment initiative that was run through the Cohort 5 Cohort (Eyaa) Empowering Youth Cohort 5, a collaboration between the ASEAN Foundation, the Maybank Foundation, and the Insan Bumi Mandiri Foundation (IBM) as the implementing partner.

The Glorious Golo Mori program aims to support the development of local potential through a participatory approach and based on citizen needs. Over the next two weeks, volunteers will carry out activities with the community and actively accompany the empowerment activities for fishermen and members of the Golo Mori Village UMKM.

The agenda begins with a warm welcoming session from residents, including Manggarai woven cloth and dance by elementary school students. After the moment of the ceremony, the volunteers were immediately involved in a discussion forum with fishermen and women’s MSME groups to explore the potential, challenges, and needs in the village. This discussion is equipped with a personal interview between volunteers and citizens, so that the needs of each community group can be recognized more deeply and become the basis for implementing the program.

In the discussion, the fishermen conveyed their challenges, such as lack of labor in managing marine products, the absence of fish storage facilities, as well as the need for guidance in the management and marketing of catches. The group of village mothers also expressed a strong desire to be entrepreneurs, but still constrained access to training and assistance.

“We are happy that there can be cooperation like this. Volunteers come to bring enthusiasm and ideas that can help us more independently. Here, mothers are also actively participating in training and starting small businesses. We also want to open access to the top of Golo Mori so that it can be a tourist attraction. Garbage management has also begun for the last two years. But we still need guidance, especially for fishermen,” said Abdul Gani, one of the local fishermen.

This empowerment program is called Golo Mori His MajestyWhere Bumi Mandiri Insan and Empowering Youths Across ASEAN) volunteers will accompany the community to achieve the main goal, namely the empowered village. Activities carried out include development cold storage Solar -powered, sea product processing training and halal certification, local product development, and strengthening market access in Golo Mori Village.

This program is a continuation of the success of IBM in running Eyaa in Belu (2023) and West Lombok (2024), with a total of more than 6,500 beneficiaries who have felt the significant impact. Glorious Golo Mori is now the latest face of IBM’s efforts in bringing needs -based empowerment in disadvantaged areas.
